What Alice finds in Wonderland
An enchanted and nightmarish space, Wonderland is the land where anything is possible. Cruelty, absurdity and desire reign supreme. So do the emancipations of childhood and the adventures of the body. So what political force can childhood have today? Because Alice is all about the child's ability to transform the world; in dreams as in waking, in action as in boredom, and in happiness as in fear.
Far from narration, Wonderland opens up 'narrative spaces'. The dance tells nothing other than its own enigma. Drawing on the works of James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson, Sylvain Huc deploys an approach that is as physical as it is plastic. Evocation and suggestion leave room for the imagination, inviting the viewer to appropriate the work, its uncertainties, its contradictions and its pretence. Wonderland is an abstract, wonder-filled journey through the world, not a literal illustration of the fairytale
