Buëch
To the south of the Alps, the gentle mountains of the Buëch reveal their secrets. The Parc naturel régional des Baronnies Provençales (Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park) is a real asset. Apple and pear orchards and fields of lavender reign. The high villages are full of character. Serres, Rosans or l’Épine evoke la Provence des Montagnes (the mountains of Provence) and art-related crafts.
In the summer, refreshing springs are omnipresent from the gorges de la Méouge (Méouge gorges) to the plan d’eau des Iscles (Iscles Lake) in Veynes or from La Germanette to Serres. Many outdoor activities can be enjoyed, including climbing on Orpierre’s world-renowned rock faces, free flying on the Chabre Mountain, flying at the Chevalet and Batie-Monsaléon aerodromes, not forgetting mountain biking or hiking. In the winter, when the snow arrives, it is pleasant to go snowshoeing and make the most of the nearby ski resorts in the Devoluy.
Finally, the Buëch has particularly clear skies. The Moydans astronomy observatory is a perfect illustration of this.
