Dégustation
Genepi 05
Cultivation of genepi at an altitude of 2,300 m. The idea of this plantation was born in 2004 from my passion for the mountains and the need to protect certain rare species such as the wild genepi. Visit my online shop!
Dégustation
Genepi 05
This small perennial plant, known only to the initiated, grows at very high altitudes between 2,000 and 3,700 metres where the verticality and the eternal snow prevent any plant life. It is found throughout the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Balkans, the Carpathians, Syria and the Sierra Nevada. The main difficulty was to find an exploitable surface at altitude where 5 criteria had to be met: altitude (it had to be higher than 2000 metres), exposure (south), slope (gentle), a water supply and access.
This was done in the Champsaur (Hautes Alpes) in the commune of Orcières at an altitude of 2300 metres and in 2005 my first seeds of yellow genepi (Artemisia mutellina) harvested on a wild plane were sown. Today about 9000 plants on a surface of 1000 square metres are harvested every year with scissors. A rotation system with grasses and clover allows the soil to rest and regenerate.
