Journées européennes du patrimoine - Le Fort du Randouillet
Follow in the footsteps of the military engineers and climb up to the Randouillet fort. The 35-minute climb, on foot along a dirt track in the forest, will give you time to admire the panorama and the whole of the 18th-century fortified barrier. The visit to the fort will enable you to discover the main military buildings, barracks and gunpowder shops.
Allowing 25 minutes to walk back down to the car park.
Duration: approximately 2h45
RDV: Champ de Tir car park, Briançon
Please allow plenty of time for travel and parking so that the visit can start on time.
2 ways of getting to the fort's firing range:
By car: From the Heritage Department, Cité Vauban, take avenue Baldenberger, then left to join avenue de la Libération then avenue de la République. At the bottom of the hill, at the first roundabout, go straight ahead and at the next roundabout, turn left into avenue du Général de Gaulle. At the next roundabout, turn left and left again at the end of the road, then immediately right at the roundabout towards the Col d'Izoard. Drive through the hamlet of Fontchristiane. A few hundred metres after the exit sign for the hamlet, take the road on the left, in the bend just before the waste centre.
Caution: reduced visibility, dangerous crossing. Continue on the road that climbs up through the fortifications. Reach the firing range on a platform used as a parking area, where there is a long concrete and wooden hut.
On foot: from the upper town, take the path leading from the Asfeld bridge, a 45-minute climb.
The guide reserves the right to cancel or interrupt any tour if necessary for the safety of visitors.
