Champsaur - Valgaudemar

While the Valgaudemar is oriented towards the high mountains with neighbouring summits that are 3500 metres in altitude (the most well-known being The Olan and The Globerney) the Champsaur is constituted of a network of agricultural land known as bocages. Agriculture sets the pace over the seasons and there are many local fete days, as there are special dishes such as tourtons and oreilles d’ânes.

The Champsaur first brings to mind the ski resorts: Orcières Merlette 1850, the largest, has changed considerably over the last few years and has high ambitions. The village resorts are Laye, Ancelle, Chaillol, Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes and Serre-Eyraud. Many outdoor activities are also possible in the summer and there is a lake in Saint Bonnet. The Valgaudemar is ideal for mountaineering and hiking at the heart of the Parc national des Écrins (Écrins National Park) where glaciers overlook the village of La-Chapelle-en-Valgaudemar, the Gioberney refuge and the famous Voile de la Mariée (Bride’s veil).

The famous Route Napoléon (Napoleon Road) goes through this area.
