Guillestrois

Between the Écrins  and the Queyras, on the Route des Grandes Alpes (Great Alpine Road), the Guillestre area holds a wealth of treasures. The Vauban fortifications of Mont-Dauphin are perched on a steep rock between the Guil and the Durance rivers and have been registered as UNESCO World Heritage since 2008. They overlook several remarkable sites such as the Fontaine Pétrifiante (Petrifying Fountain) in Réotier, which is a natural geological peculiarity, or the Plan de Phazy and its naturally warm water spring.

Vars and  Risoul are at the tourist heart of the Guillestre area. These two resorts are well-known for their shared ski area that makes up La Forêt Blanche (185 kilometres of staggered slopes ranging from 1650 metres to 2750 metres in altitude) and the major events that they hold (Speed skiing, Tour de France). They are amongst the most attractive in the Southern Alps.

Guillestre, the main town is lively all year round and offers some great initiatives such as the Consom’acteurs workshops or the Festival Potes de Marmottes, (Friends of Marmots Festival) for which it was granted the award as a Destination Touristique d’Excellence (Tourist Destination of Excellence). The Guillestre area also has an aerodrome in Saint-Crépin.
