Journées du patrimoine : visite des mines de la cabane
If you're a history and heritage enthusiast, or curious to learn more about the history and life of Villard-Saint-Pancrace's peasant miners, here's a visit you're sure to enjoy.
The tour begins at the mountain center, where you'll discover the tools used in the mine and the installations that were built.
You'll then set off on a short stroll to the cabane mine, about 1 hour's ascent, with a vertical drop of around 200m. A bucolic walk through the woods, where you'll be able to observe the ancient remains of the miners, with some mine entrances still visible, the presence of rails that enabled coal to be transported in waggons... (There are 200 galleries in the Villard-Saint-Pancrace area).
Once at the cabin, don your helmet and headlamp, and immerse yourself in the Cabane mine. Open your eyes wide, turn on your headlamp and enjoy the discovery!
