THE MANY FACES OF THE MOUNTAINS – CLIMBER PROFILES

Benjamin Védrines

Born in the Drôme département, Benjamin is passionate about the mountains. This professional mountain guide and alpinist is an accomplished athlete who can turn his hand to any sport including ski mountaineering, paragliding, rock climbing, mountaineering, cycling and cross-country skiing. Benjamin has proved his mettle multiple times, setting new records (crossing the Queyras in two days, traversing the Écrins on skis in 28 hours) and achieving mountaineering firsts: on 28 and 29 January 2023, together with Nicolas Jean and Julien  Cruvellier, he completed the first ascent of a legendary gully on the south face of the Barre des Écrins. His exploits earned him nominations for the Piolets d’Or in 2018, 2020 and 2022.
A man who simply can’t get enough of the mountains, Benjamin is currently based in the Serre-Chevalier Valley at Monêtier-les-Bains, where he can indulge his passion for the mountains to the full before taking on his next sporting challenge.

Johanna Marcoz

Johanna, who hails from the Écrins region, took to the mountains from a very young age, getting into outdoor sports such as skiing, mountaineering and rock climbing.
Today she combines her love for the mountains with her hectic professional life, which changes with the seasons: in the summer she works in the Écrins as a mountain guide, and in winter she’s a ski instructor based in Puy-Saint-Vincent. She devotes the rest of the year to climbing and mountaineering. Johanna is living the mountain-lover’s dream!
