Each hike is unique... nature has so many surprises in store for those who know how to spot them! So it's as a naturalist guide that I'm now offering you the chance to escape into the heart of nature...
1- 'On the trail of the wolf': family discovery (on foot; snowshoes in winter)
Naturalist hike with educational workshop and a member of the ONCFS Wolf-Lynx network
This family hike is organised all year round on a Thursday morning.
From spring to autumn, meet at 8.30am (location according to my latest wildlife sightings). In winter, meet at 9.30am at Réallon station
During a walk in the mountains, we'll discover some of the secrets that nature has in store for us. What animal lives here and how?
The wolf will be the main theme, and we'll look at its ecology, its life, its history and its presence here. We'll be looking for the wolf and the other animals that live here. Seeing them, of course, but also finding and following their tracks: footprints and trails (squirrels, hares, roe deer, deer, chamois, birds, etc.). And there's probably a big surprise in store for us, but shhh... let's keep moving silently at a leisurely pace...
Difficulties
Duration: 3 h
Level: easy walk
Altitude gain: approx. 100 m
Materials and equipment required
Wear suitable clothing (gloves, hat, scarf...) and waterproof footwear. Don't forget a drink, appetite suppressant, sunglasses, sun cream, binoculars and camera if you have them.
2- Starry mountain: astronomy for all
Astronomy session with use of optics, explanations of the cosmos, constellations and legends.
Wednesday evenings all year round. For the whole family, groups and associations (children, teenagers, adults, retired people).
Schedules vary according to the season (departure at dusk). From spring to autumn, meeting point at Chorges.
Winter: meeting point at Réallon resort (departure at 5.30pm in December; 6pm in January; 6.30pm in February to return for lunch).
We'll start our outing with a short twilight walk. The focus will be on observing the surrounding nature, landscape and heritage, with views of the lake and surrounding mountains. We'll be witnessing the magic that happens here at dusk, between dogs and wolves, and listening to the very particular changes in the surrounding sounds (changes in atmosphere, colours, noises, scents)
Our gaze will then turn to the night sky to detail the first visible constellations, which will point out over the mountains to be reflected in the waters of the lake. The first planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Mars, depending on the date) and visible stars (Sirius, Arcturus, Vega and the North Star, whose name is Stella polaris) will 'appear'
Young and old alike will have fun discovering some tales about the constellations. The quality of the local sky means that visibility is exceptional, making it ideal for more in-depth observations using optical equipment to observe clusters, nebulae, double stars and other galaxies...
